Orchiata  is a world-renowned, professional-grade orchid substrate produced from 100% pure New Zealand Pinus radiata bark. Unlike standard mulch or pine barks, it is uniquely aged (not composted), a process that modifies the outer surface to hold water and nutrients while keeping the inner core hard and stable.

Key Features & Benefits
  • Superior Longevity: The hard physical structure of Pinus radiata resists breaking down, lasting significantly longer than traditional barks. It can maintain its integrity in a pot for several years, reducing the frequency of repotting.
  • Optimal Air & Water Balance: The aging process allows each chip to hold moisture and nutrients on its outer layer while the core remains well-draining. This provides consistent hydration and an ideal wet/dry cycle for sensitive roots.
  • Naturally Pathogen-Free: High-temperature processing eliminates harmful pathogens and pests while fostering the growth of beneficial microorganisms (like Trichoderma) that protect the plant from root rot.
  • pH Balanced & Ready to Use: Pre-buffered with natural dolomite to achieve an optimal pH of 5.5–6.5. It can be used directly from the bag without the need for pre-soaking or rinsing.
  • Low Salt Accumulation: It has a naturally low Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), meaning it does not accumulate excess salts from fertilizers, reducing the need for frequent flushing.

Standard Grades & Sizes

Grade Name Size Best Used For
Precision 3–6 mm Young seedlings, tissue culture flask babies, and fine-rooted species.
Classic 6–9 mm Small to medium orchids, second repotting, and moisture-loving species.
Power 9–12 mm Young and mature orchids; a popular "all-purpose" choice for most Phalaenopsis.
Power+ 12–18 mm Mature orchids and species requiring high Air Flow Porosity (AFP).
Super 18–25 mm Large, mature orchids or species with very thick roots (e.g., Vandas).

Recommended Uses
  • Standalone Substrate: Ideal for high-end orchids like Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, and Oncidium.
  • Aroid Mixes: A favorite "chunky" component for Monstera and Philodendron mixes to provide long-lasting structure and aeration.
